The completion of the works on the La Cala de Mijas Olympic swimming pool and its “next opening” are “excellent news for all residents and visitors of the municipality”, says the PP, who explains that this project, which has faced delays due to several factors, is now finished and received, and behind its equipment, will become a “great improvement” for the offer of sports infrastructures in the municipality.

Firstly, speaking to the people, it is essential to highlight “the commitment of the Ayuntamiento de Mijas despite the challenges”. In his opinion, the Olympic pool will be a “key space” both for recreational use and for the training and competition of local athletes. During the last few years, construction has been delayed, according to the PP, due to “some mismatches between the project and its final completion”, whose work management was entrusted to an external company. Furthermore, adding to the popular ones, the restrictions derived from the sequence made it difficult to fill the pool and check its operation, which could finally be done in May 2024. Since then, remember the PP, hub of “multitud of requirements” to the construction company so that it could resolve all the defects that, “regrettably, were not controlled during the construction process”, which began to manifest itself while some floods were produced with filtrations from the compartment, or when the vessel was filled with water leaks. Despite these difficulties, people say, “the project has been completed successfully, offering a modern and high-quality installation”.

The spokesman for the Partido Popular de Mijas, Mario Bravo, regrets that the previous government team did not bid for the equipment of complementary facilities (gymnasium, changing rooms, etc.), which was only included in the contract currently being carried out by the Ayuntamiento to renovate all the municipality’s sports facilities, which maintenance, says Bravo, “I haven’t been the best in recent years”.

According to the PP, this infrastructure on the ground will benefit local sportspeople, but will also have a significant impact on the quality of life of residents. “The heated Olympic swimming pool will allow citizens to practice swimming throughout the year, regardless of the weather conditions. This is especially important for the population of the greater city, both Spanish and foreign, who live in Mijas. Swimming is an ideal low-impact exercise for mayors, helping to improve mobility, muscular strength and cardiovascular health”, say popular people.

The Partido Popular considers that “the new pool will also strengthen the tourist offer in La Cala de Mijas, attracting visitors interested in sports and entertainment, which will have a positive impact on the local economy. Furthermore, it will allow the organization of competitions and events at regional and even national level, which will position Mijas as a reference in the sporting sphere”.
